This document specifies a method for the determination of freeand released formaldehyde in leathers. This method, based oncolorimetric analysis, is not intended to be used for a precise of formaldehyde. The formaldehyde content is takento be the of free-formaldehyde and formaldehyde extractedthrough hydrolysis contained in a water extract from the leatherunder standard conditions. This process is not absolutely selectivefor formaldehyde. Other compounds such as extracted dyes codinterfere at 412 nm.
