This European Standard applies to cylinders and their keys forsuch locks as are normally used in buildings and are designed to beused with cylinders, where the locks have an operational torque ofmaximum 1,2 Nm. This European Standard specifies performance andother re for the strength, security, durability,performance and corrosion resistance of cylinders and theiroriginal keys. It establishes one category of use, three grades ofdurability, three grades for fire and four grades corrosionresistance all based on performance tests as well as six grades ofkey related security based on design re and five gradeson performance tests that simate attack. This European Standardincludes tests of satisfactory operation at a range oftemperatures. It specifies test methods to be used on cylinders andtheir protective measures linked with these cylinders andrecommended by the manufacturer. Corrosion resistance is specifiedby reference to the re of EN 1670 on corrosion resistanceof building hardware. The suitability of cylinders for use on fireor smoke-door assemblies is determined by fire performance testsconducted in addition to the performance testing required by thisstandard. Since suitability for use on fire doors is not essentialin every situation the manufacturer has the option to state if thecylinder conforms to these additional re or not. If soclaimed, cylinders will comply with the re in Annex A.Assessment of fire resistance of grade 1 doors is beyond the scopeof this document. On occasions there may be a need for additionalfunctions within the design of the cylinder. Purchasers shodsatisfy themselves that the products are suitable for theirintended use.
