漢代以后，雖然工藝不斷完善和成熟，但這四個步驟基本上沒有變化，即使在現(xiàn)代，在濕法造紙生產中，其生產工藝與中國古代造紙法仍沒有根本區(qū)別。造紙技術的發(fā)展主要體現(xiàn)兩個方面：在原料方面，魏晉南北朝時已經開始利用桑皮、藤皮造紙。

到了隋朝、五代時期，竹、檀皮、麥桿、稻桿等也都已作為造紙原料，先后被利用，從而為造紙頁的發(fā)展提供了豐富而充足的原料來源。

The development of papermakingtechnology mainly embodies two aspects: in terms of raw materials,mulberry bark and rattan bark were used for papermaking in the Wei,Jin and Southern and Northern Dynasties. 

By the Sui Dynasty and the Five Dynasties, bamboo, sandalwood,wheat straw and rice straw had been used as raw materials for papermaking, which provided abundant and sufficient sources of rawmaterials for the development of paper making.
