木炭是由木材或木質原料不完全燃燒或熱解得到的燃料。本試驗通過暴露物質于不同溫度下檢測其是否會氧化自熱。在140℃下，試驗樣品溫度未超出檢測溫度60℃，因此不屬于自發(fā)熱物質。
木炭（charcoal），一種燃料名稱。是木材或木質原料經過不完全燃燒，或者在隔絕空氣的條件下熱解，所殘留的深褐色或黑色多孔固體燃料。
木炭是保持木材原來構造和孔內殘留焦油的不純的無定形碳。中國商代的青銅器和春秋戰(zhàn)國時代鐵器的冶煉都用木炭，利用其吸濕性來觀測氣候變化等。
本試驗通過將物質裝在邊長為25mm或100mm的立方形鋼絲網(wǎng)容器內，在100℃、120℃或140℃的溫度下暴露于空氣中，確定物質是否會氧化自熱。
